Creativity and New Media
Before I speak on how I use new media as an outlet for my creativity, I’d like to share how it has inspired me to do so. During my time in high school, I became a huge fan of YouTube and the wide range of content it had to offer, from Minecraft to music videos. But one Youtuber who really caught my attention was Casey Neistat. He was a filmmaker, but his videos didn’t have a crazy high budget or production, instead, it was the story he told. From that moment on I was inspired and decided to start recording videos on just my iPhone. As time went on, I decided to buy a dedicated video camera. It was YouTube again, that taught me how to edit my videos on Final Cut Pro and adjust my camera settings. I now create videos highlighting my travels and share them via YouTube. Creating videos has also motivated to step out of my comfort zone. During my travels I am now willing to go that extra mile or wait for the perfect sunset, just to capture an amazing shot. In a sense, this will serve as my diary, as I can look back at my adventures years from now.
I really like how you explained your interest in Casey Neistat's YouTube channel. I checked out some of his content as well and it really looks like he makes genuine work and tells a story rather than spending big bucks for a clip.
ReplyDeleteVery cool highlight video of Iceland. Did you get to see the northern lights? I love to travel as well and wanted to make similar highlight videos so I recently purchased the gopro fusion 360. I know, its not considered a professional camera like your A7, but looking at their display videos in the store made it very tempting and I needed a sporty camera for activities. camera looked and worked well but to extract video from it seemed to be a lot of work. as you have to maneuver the layout to figure out what part of the 360 view you want to crop. I actually bought it the night before leaving on a vacation and returned it the day I came back. I'm back to the gopro hero for ease of just taking footage and uploading without editing. I will defiantly look into the final cut you are using. How user friendly and time consuming is it?
