Creativity and New Media

Image
Before I speak on how I use new media as an outlet for my creativity, I’d like to share how it has inspired me to do so. During my time in high school, I became a huge fan of YouTube and the wide range of content it had to offer, from Minecraft to music videos. But one Youtuber who really caught my attention was Casey Neistat. He was a filmmaker, but his videos didn’t have a crazy high budget or production, instead, it was the story he told. From that moment on I was inspired and decided to start recording videos on just my iPhone. As time went on, I decided to buy a dedicated video camera. It was YouTube again, that taught me how to edit my videos on Final Cut Pro and adjust my camera settings. I now create videos highlighting my travels and share them via YouTube. Creating videos has also motivated to step out of my comfort zone. During my travels I am now willing to go that extra mile or wait for the perfect sunset, just to capture an amazing shot. In a sense, this will serve as my...

HW Creativity

New media has allowed many individuals to create and share their creations. Websites, blogs and social media allows users to curate their own content and serve as a form of self-expression. In 2019 the most popular way of sharing one’s creativity with the world is definitely social media. It is important to note that each social media platform has its own niche and benefits. Instagram has a better visual feel to it than Facebook, so one can use that to share images. Where as YouTube and Soundcloud are better for music and videos.  Before new media came around, one had to share their ideas and creations through physical face to face interactions or endure long waits for shipping. In my opinion, the greatest benefit new media has brought to creatives is the ability to gain feedback from a range of people. People who see your work are easily able to send a message or drop a comment to share their honest opinions. According to the article from NY Times titled , Twitter Serves Up Ideas...

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Image
Virtual reality is still considered by many to be new and advanced. The majority of consumers have definitely heard of V.R through news outlets and social media channels, but not many have had the experience to personally try it. Some people may see it as a device for leisure that enhances entertainment. But there have been articles showing the help it provides for individuals with special needs. In a CNN Health article titled, iReport: “Naughty Auties” battle autism with virtual interaction , Nicole Saidi points out the benefits of VR to those with Autism. VR allows those affected by autism to create a virtual being of themselves. This not only allows for the practice of social interactions but creating a strong online community. As mentioned before, many people use and know of V.R for its entertainment purposes. Videos have gone viral where you see people panicking as they believe they are on a roller coaster, or walking through a virtual haunted house. Programs such as Second ...

Blog about Twitter

Image
After completing the Twitter Discussion assignment, I find the social media site very similar to Blackboard's discussion board. Just like Blackboard, it allows users to read and comment on one another's post. The only limiting factor to Twitter is the character count of 280, which makes every word count. It is a lot easier to get an idea across on Blackboard without that limitation. If anything I would say it is more similar to an in-class decision. When a student participates in class they are limited by the class time and the fact that other students need time to participate too. This is very similar to the character limit that is implemented on Twitter. However, I believe that the character count is also what makes Twitter unique. It allows users to quickly gather information without having to spend too much time reading. It is similar to what Snapchat originally did, with 10-second videos and pictures.

Blog: Social Networking Sites

Being a millennial, I would say that I'm pretty experienced with the top social media sites. My top four includes, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Linkedin. For me Facebook was what started it all, it was the first platform that allowed me to share my life updates, and message my friends. However as of  recently, it seems to be outdated by other social media standards. I now only log into Facebook to utilize the messenger feature. Instagram  on the other hand is definitly one of my most used application. It allows me highlight some of the very special moments in my life with others. Posts on Instgram take a little more thought in comparison to Snapchat. My Snapchat is used for only close friends. Snapchat has created a platform for users to share spontanious and authenthic moments. Lastly, there is LinkedIn , which is used only for professional connections. It is a great site that allows students and professionals to build their network and find j...

Blog Social Networking

Social networks have become very prominent in the life of most individuals. This technology allows us to share our thoughts and connect with individuals we might not be able to physically see. Social networks continue to grow, but some of the most popular ones include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Linkedin. Although there are plenty of benefits, these platforms have their tradeoffs. The first one that can be mentioned is privacy, and how this technology opens up our information to the world. Even if there are certain settings and precaution one can take towards privacy, it's not always perfect. An example can be seen from The Atlantic article which discusses how a 3rd party was able to view Randi Zuckerberg's, sister of Facebook's founder, photo. Even someone that involved within the organizations is unaware of the fine details of privacy settings, let alone an average user. These common mistakes can lead to leaks of sensitive or private information. In addition, ...
